Past Projects
The Golden & District Community Foundation’s ninth annual round of grants generated a record number and value of requests. Recently, a total of $20,000 was awarded to 10 local projects.
Each fall, the earnings from the Community Foundation’s endowment funds are available through the community grants programs. By October 22nd, a total of 23 project proposals were received, requesting some $87,000. With so much demand, the GDCF Grants Advisory Committee of Denise English, Krys Sikora, Katherine Fiebig, Evelyn Keenleyside and Robert Miller had to make some tough decisions. As well, for many members of the Golden Youth Opportunities Council, this was their first experience with philanthropy and it opened their eyes to the challenges of local non-profit groups.
Executive Director, Ryan Watmough reported, “The Community Foundation received more than double the usual number of applications this year and more than triple the request for funds. After extensive deliberations, the GDCF and GYOC were able support a wide-range of community projects.”
