Report from the Chair
Glen Ewan, Q.C.
June 20, 2019
Looking back on 2018, the Foundation, and I as Chair, need to say thank you to many people and organizations who have helped us to continue to be successful and important to our community.
We have over 1.4 million dollars entrusted to us. I want to thank the Columbia Valley Credit Union for continuing to pay us above-market rates on our deposits with them. We are also grateful to the Columbia Basin Trust for its 5% annual interest payment on our endowment funds.
2018 was a good year for donations to us as well. The Peter Bowle-Evans Fund was begun with large contributions from Peter’s family and friends, ending in an endowment of $7100, enough to ensure an annual award recognizing community excellence in Peter’s name for many years to come.
The Virk family added $5000 to the Aman Virk Memorial Scholarship. Now endowed with over $50,000.00, this scholarship will be one of the largest given out every year to a Golden Secondary School Graduate.
Many individuals and groups made contributions to our endowment funds in 2018, too numerous to mention here, and I want to thank each one of them again for making the Foundation their charity of choice.
The Foundation could not have been so visible and active in our community without the on-going volunteer time of our Board and committee members. I know each one of you is aware of the importance of your individual contributions. As Chair I have been pleased to work with all of you to make Golden a better place for everyone.
And yes, we couldn’t have done it without our Executive Director, Joy Orr. Joy has delivered on her promises to keep us all working together and to create a stronger organization for the future.
What will 2019 bring? Some of our long-serving directors are leaving. On behalf of your colleagues I wish you all well in your next community endeavours.
Many new faces are joining us. The experience and energy each one of them will bring to the Board table gives me the hope that this year will be a break-through year for fund-raising and profile-raising.
We have set an ambitious course and high standards for us all to meet in 2019. I look forward to the challenge; I look forward to the fun along the way; I look forward to being part of the successes of the Golden and District Community Foundation.
