Edward J. and Barbara A. Blysak Welding & Nursing Bursaries

Barbara and Ed Blysak have spent their lives caring for their community and inspiring those around them.

Barbara, known to her family as Barbara Ann (Brown), was always a caretaker at heart. From a young age, she cared for her grandmother and grandmothers two cousins on the family farm in Owen Sound and knew she wanted a career devoted to helping people. She came to Golden in 1971 to nurse, bringing that lifelong calling with her.

Born in Golden in 1930, Ed built a life grounded in hard work and skill. A certified welder among many talents, he worked across the country and remained in his childhood home until 2026, returning to where his story began and reaching the remarkable age of 95.

Married partners in life and service, Barbara and Ed, who affectionately refered to each other as “hunny,” have established two annual $5,000 bursaries in nursing and welding beginning in March 2026. Their generosity will continue to support future generations who work hard, care deeply, and want to give back to this community they call home.
